Dragon Age: Origins is the spiritual successor to BioWare's critically acclaimed Baldur's Gate, featuring deep character customization and role-playing, morally challenging decisions, tactical party-based combat, and a wealth of gritty, mature sub-plots. It is a dark, heroic fantasy game that combines original storytelling techniques with classic role-playing challenges.

In Dragon Age, your choices change the world and affect the people around you. Certain situations, storylines, and conversation options will change drastically depending on your origin and your motivations. You choose your origin, and from that starting point, your story begins. You play through your character's early days, defining his or her background and motivation and begin to learn more about the world of Ferelden from your own distinct perspective. Your choice of origin defines how you will view the world and how it views you. Choose a sneaky, disrespected commoner and you will play a story that focuses around subtle skills and careful wordplay. Choose a noble origin and the world will be much more positive and helpful, but those jealous of your status will not be afraid to take what you have, violently if necessary.

  • Epic Party-Based Combat  Dragon Age: Origins introduces an innovative, scalable combat system, as players face large-scale battles and use their party's special abilities to destroy hoardes of enemies and massive creatures.
  • Powerful Magic  Raining down awesome destruction on enemies is even more compelling as players apply spell combos, a way of combining together different spells to create emergent unique effects.
  • Deep Customization Players will develop their characters and gain powerful special abilities (spells, talents and skills) and discover ever-increasing weapons of destruction.
  • Your Story, Your Way  With its emotionally compelling story, players choose with whom they wish to forge alliances or crush under their mighty fist, redefining the world with the choices they make and how they wield their power.
  • Origin Stories Players will select and play a unique prelude that provides the lens through which the player sees the world and how the world sees the player. The player's choice of Origin will determine who they are and where they begin the adventure, as they play through a customized story opening that profoundly impacts the course of every adventure.

Good game but could of been...

DAO is a good game, with a lot of excellent content.  The game lacks tremendous graphics, some of the cut scenes are nice but overall the graphics for PS3 are lacking.  The game play is fun if not frustrating at times.  Normal difficulty is a little too hard, and easy is too easy.

The amount of content in the game is incredible.  There are seperate stories for each character, and plenty of side quests.  The game is fun to play but you need to use tactics.  If you approach this as a run and hit type of game you will either be losing often, or playing on easy.

This game has been in production for so long it makes you wonder if it was rushed at the end.  For Bioware to put out DAO w the low level of graphics is surprsing.  Still a very good RPG, and definite multiple play thrus.

The score is based on the quality of the story(if it's a story based game); or the quality of the simulation for sports and music titles. For example, GTA 4, was the story compelling? was it a main feature of the game? Another example would be Tiger Woods, how was the golfing experience? Was it satisfying? Graphic The overall experience of playing the game. This would include how fun was it to play, was it easy to work with? Was the game developed well in all aspects? The overall experience of playing the game. This would include how fun was it to play, was it easy to work with? Was the game developed well in all aspects? Control  How well do the controls work? Are the buttons mapped in a way that makes the gamess easy and comfortable to play? Menu map  This includes the music, the voice action, and the cut scenes (if there are any). Sound  Does this work in a logical way? Does it take you out of the game play experience because you have to leave the main game screen? How are the loading times? If it's a sports game or music game how easy are the menus to navigate? Is it intuitive to get around menus?
Overall  Is the game worth another play thru? Does the game give you a reason to play again or is one time enough? Replay Is the multi-player strong? Are there multiple options? Is there co-op? If the game has only single player then rate the overall experience. Overall was it a great game(4-5) good(3) mediocre(2) or poor(0-1). The online scoring is based on multiplayer, co-op, and any downloadable content.  If a game does not have any multiplayer or co-op, but it does have downloadable content, you can count that as part of the online score.  GGR feels that if a game does not provide any online capability then it can not receive a perfect score.
