Dragon Age: Origins is the spiritual successor to BioWare's
critically acclaimed Baldur's Gate, featuring deep character
customization and role-playing, morally challenging decisions, tactical
party-based combat, and a wealth of gritty, mature sub-plots. It is a
dark, heroic fantasy game that combines original storytelling
techniques with classic role-playing challenges.
In Dragon Age, your choices change the world and affect the
people around you. Certain situations, storylines, and conversation
options will change drastically depending on your origin and your
motivations. You choose your origin, and from that starting point, your
story begins. You play through your character's early days, defining
his or her background and motivation and begin to learn more about the
world of Ferelden from your own distinct perspective. Your choice of
origin defines how you will view the world and how it views you. Choose
a sneaky, disrespected commoner and you will play a story that focuses
around subtle skills and careful wordplay. Choose a noble origin and
the world will be much more positive and helpful, but those jealous of
your status will not be afraid to take what you have, violently if
necessary.
Epic Party-Based Combat – Dragon
Age: Origins introduces an innovative, scalable combat system, as
players face large-scale battles and use their party's special
abilities to destroy hoardes of enemies and massive creatures.
Powerful Magic – Raining down awesome destruction on enemies
is even more compelling as players apply spell combos, a way of
combining together different spells to create emergent unique effects.
Deep Customization – Players will develop their characters
and gain powerful special abilities (spells, talents and skills) and
discover ever-increasing weapons of destruction.
Your Story, Your Way – With its emotionally compelling
story, players choose with whom they wish to forge alliances or crush
under their mighty fist, redefining the world with the choices they
make and how they wield their power.
Origin Stories – Players will select and play a unique
prelude that provides the lens through which the player sees the world
and how the world sees the player. The player's choice of Origin will
determine who they are and where they begin the adventure, as they play
through a customized story opening that profoundly impacts the course
of every adventure.
This is one of those games where the the final product is greater than the sum of all it's parts. I would definitely recommend this game for fantasy RPG fans, If you can get past the awful graphics and all around bugginess.
The story is dark and deep, and I particularly enjoyed trying to win over the members in my party. The dialogue options are not obvious, the writing is superb and the VO is excellent.
You will spend a good 20% of your game experience navigating menus, managing inventory, equipping party members with stuff, researching online what the heck some of these items are for and if it's okay to trash them. It works in MMOs because they have an actual economy, but seemed like a waste of time in Dragon Age, where story should have been the focus.
The beginning stages of the game are decent, but where I really got into it is when I began to form friendships with my party members, and got into their back stories. It took me about a month to get 25 hours in and then 3 more days to get to 45.
I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys RPGs, especially people who play them on PC. Anyone else might find the game a little tedious. It's also not for achievement whores - I only got 445 after 45 hours of gameplay.

Great story good game
The story is well presented, and there's plenty to listen to. The game gives you three different classes to try; warriror, mage, or rogue. Each has multiple options for you to customize further.
The game is based around you and three party members so tactics are important. You can change the difficulty, but I found normal a little too difficult and easy to easy.
Overall if you like RPG's you will enjoy this game. If you are looking for a great story with lots of quests, then DAO will keep you busy for a while.

The score is based on the quality of the story(if it's a story based game); or the quality of the simulation for sports and music titles. For example, GTA 4, was the story compelling? was it a main feature of the game? Another example would be Tiger Woods, how was the golfing experience? Was it satisfying?Graphic The overall experience of playing the game. This would include how fun was it to play, was it easy to work with? Was the game developed well in all aspects? The overall experience of playing the game. This would include how fun was it to play, was it easy to work with? Was the game developed well in all aspects?Control How well do the controls work? Are the buttons mapped in a way that makes the gamess easy and comfortable to play?Menu map This includes the music, the voice action, and the cut scenes (if there are any).Sound Does this work in a logical way? Does it take you out of the game play experience because you have to leave the main game screen? How are the loading times? If it's a sports game or music game how easy are the menus to navigate? Is it intuitive to get around menus? Overall Is the game worth another play thru? Does the game give you a reason to play again or is one time enough?Replay Is the multi-player strong? Are there multiple options? Is there co-op? If the game has only single player then rate the overall experience. Overall was it a great game(4-5) good(3) mediocre(2) or poor(0-1).The online scoring is based on multiplayer, co-op, and any downloadable content. If a game does not have any multiplayer or co-op, but it does have downloadable content, you can count that as part of the online score. GGR feels that if a game does not provide any online capability then it can not receive a perfect score.
